Delicious Hot Drinks to Enjoy in the Fall
The Fall season brings with it cooler weather, falling leaves, sweaters, turning on your heater, possibly snow, yummy soups and stews, and most definitely nice hot drinks. Unlike just about any other Fall food item, that can be eaten any time of the year if planned right, hot drinks are one of those items that is reserved for the cooler weather of the Fall and Winter.
It just doesn’t seem right to curl up to nice steamy mug of hot chocolate on a warm summer night now does it? My children and I have been bundling up in our sweat pants and socks before coming downstairs to temperatures in the 30s and 40s every morning for a month now. As beautiful and refreshing as this season is after a long hot year, it’s downright chilly sometimes.

We are certainly enjoying putting on our hats, mittens and warm coats and going outside to play in the snow, visiting pumpkin patches, and attending all of the season’s festivals. However, nothing is quite as comforting as being all warm and bundled up inside with a nice cup of homemade pumpkin spice latte, or hot cinnamon tea. It seemed only appropriate to share some of the best recipes we’ve found and loved with you, so you can also feel the wonder of the Fall season along with us, hopefully all bundled up in front of a movie, the fireplace, or the front window watching the snow.
Here are just a few that I hope you love!
Warm Apple Carrot Drink

There’s no hard and fast rule that says your warm drink has to be made with chocolate. I think you’re really going to enjoy this mixture from Green Kitchen Stories of hot, freshly pressed apple juice and carrot juice with a hint of spice. Yum!
It certainly helps that my toddler loves apples and carrots, but this is one of our family’s favorites! If you have a juicer, it certainly helps to get nice fresh juice from your fruits and vegetables. However, you can always put your items in the blender with 1/2 cup of water per item, then pour it all into a fine strainer or mesh bag and squeeze all of the juice out of the pulp.
Thick and Creamy Hot Vanilla

When I was younger and my friends would swing by Starbucks for their coffee, I loved getting their vanilla steamers. Hot steamed milk with added vanilla was just the perfect thing to hit the spot on a chilly day. This recipe from Oatmeal with a Fork makes that awesome drink even better with homemade clean-eating marshmallows.
The mixture of hot steamy milk with some amazing fall spices is delicious on a cold morning. Just talking about it makes me want to go make one of my own. The homemade marshmallows are a big hit with my husband and toddler. They like to use them in many different ways, like in their hot chocolate.
Hot Ginger Tea

I’ll keep the tea suggestions to a minimum as I’ve already posted a great article on the 12 Teas to Healing. However, this ginger tea from Shape not only brings in the flavors of the season, but all of the health benefits of fresh ginger as well. What more could you ask for from your hot drink?
I’ve enjoyed this particular drink during my last two pregnancies to calm my stomach and give me a health boost when I needed it the most. Although, it’s a great pick me up any time of the year.
Homemade Hot Apple Cider

It really bothers me when someone posts a recipe and it includes a pre-packaged item from the store. It’s not real apple cider if it comes from a package. Check out this delicious homemade cider from Healthful Pursuit without all of the added sugar! You’re going to love how easy it is to make.
Leanne makes the process so easy that I like to make it by the bucketful when apples are in season in the fall to use in all of my recipes. Yummy!
Apple Cider Vinegar Cinnamon Tea

Yum! Apples and cinnamon are one of my favorite flavor combinations, and the addition of apple cider vinegar bring you immune support, heart health, and a detox in one simple mug of yummy tea.
With the addition of my Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar, this yummy tea from Clean Eating Magazine is an amazing addition to your healthy diet along with being a relaxing, apple-cinnamon drink to add to the flavor of the season.
Mexican Hot Chocolate

I’ve come to be bored by just simple hot chocolate. I’ll give you some great ways to give it a boost for the winter, but this fall try it with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and a little bit of cayenne! Once again, this recipe from Mother Nature Network is homemade. It’s just not nearly as good when it comes from a package.
After having this hot chocolate recipe, you’ll be surprised how easy it is to make from scratch, and you’ll never want to go back to plain old hot chocolate again. We’ve never gone back to the pre-packaged variety again.
Warm Spiced Coconut Almond Milk

Tumeric, ginger and nutmeg, with just a hint of cayenne, gives this yummy, sweet hot milk drink from Vitacost just what it needs to take your senses into this season. You don’t have to use almond milk, but boy does it give this delicious concoction just a little bit extra.
Most of the time, we simply use our organic whole milk since that’s what we have on hand, and everyone in the house loves it! Even my coconut disliking husband enjoys this hot drink.

They really know how to make some delicious hot drinks in Europe. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll enjoy this Earl Grey tea and milk blend by Free People. You might be making all of your hot teas just like this after trying this amazing recipe.
This recipe also uses almond milk as its base, but we just use our whole milk. Honestly, you can do this same thing with a variety of tea flavors, but the Earl Grey truly makes this drink the European concoction it is. I love this one! Enjoy!
Caramel Vanilla Chai Tea Latte

I had to toss some traditional fall hot drinks in there after mixing it up so much for you. Chai tea already uses all of my favorite fall spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves that make it so yummy. Why not top it with some caramel to really put it over the top?! Mom on Timeout does a really great job on this delicious drink.
I’m not big on coffee which is traditionally an ingredient in lattes, but in our house, we just leave out the coffee and enjoy all of the other delicious ingredients. This also makes it just right for my kids to enjoy with me.
Easy Pumpkin Spice Latte

This has got to be one of my favorites this season. I personally use my home canned pumpkin, whole organic milk, homemade pumpkin pie spice and homemade vanilla extract for this drink, and blend it all up in my mug with my immersion blender. We don’t drink any coffee around here, but that doesn’t stunt this great drink in any way.
Iowa Girl Eats does an amazing job job making this recipe super easy to pull together with just a few ingredients. This is a regular drink in our house this season. I hope you like it as much as we do!

Your days are busy, the holidays are coming, and life is likely about to get more stressful. This is the perfect time to sit back, take a deep breath, and enjoy the changes of the season.
Whether this means curling up in front of the fireplace with a good book, watching the snow fall outside your windows, or enjoying a good movie with family, do it with a nice hot drink. I promise that the warmth flowing through your body, with the flavors of the season surrounding you, will at least take the edge off, if not completely make everything better.
